And there's no free internet access in the hotel, so we're at the coffee place down the block. Poor coffee place is going to be inundated with witches and wizards who primarily talk about porn...
Wednesday's wizarding wrock concert was odd. The people there were, weirdly, not all the same people who will attend the main con. These wizarding wrock bands have groupies. Amusing, and scary. The one band I heard, The Mudbloods, was pretty okay, but otherwise none were really to my taste. All musical genres were represented, though: whiny chick rock, death metal, rap, hip-hop, football hooligan, The Mix, and American Idolists. The one thing they all had in common: they're fandom, too.

May I just say how delighted I am that icky pairing mashup names never came to my fandoms - TPM, VG, LOTR. I mean, can you imagine?
- Quobi. Ick. Or what about Obi-Gon [oh, begone! Kind of like what a vexed Austin Powers would say to someone who was annoying him] or Qui-Wan? Blech.
- Brurt. Curian. Curthur?
- Aramir. Borogorn. [Okay, they sound like middle-earth names anyway, but still - ick.] Legimli. Farabor. Eogorn. Mippin. Frowise. Sarudalf.
What was wrong with the slash mark anyway? God, I can't look at some pairings without thinking of something like...Brangelina or Bennifer or some nasty, cheap, celebrity-name mashup.

My mellow was seriously harshed last night, but I'm better now. Technological and mechanical snafus will do that to me.
You should have seen me trying to put up a Christmas tree in my apartment about ten years ago. The trunk was too skinny for the holder, and that bastard just would not stay up no matter what I tried. I was getting silently madder and madder, and I finally turned to my friend Jen and said "I think you'd better go home, Jen."
She must have seen something scary in my face, because she left immediately. I proceeded to have a shit-fit that only the cat witnessed, then I wound up anchoring the tree to a closet hinge by a wire. Not the most elegant solution, I grant, but it got the job done.
So when I'm frustrated, best to leave me alone 'til I've got myself calmed down and the problem sorted.
I've decided to move my large dresser into the living room, to use as sort of a credenza. I've wanted a credenza forever, and my bedroom furniture is really stark and modern, and the pale maple finish matches my coffee table, so. I'll still use it for clothes until I can get new bedroom furniture [someday!].

I only have the horizontal 6-drawer dresser [not the vertical one shown], a three-drawer dresser, and a mirror. I never did get a bed frame because I never found anything I wanted. I'm thinking I want something slightly warmer for my bedroom now. Supposedly this is the year my BIL puts an extra room on my casita so I'll be able to use the bedroom, which is very tiny, as an office. We'll see. That would be cool, because I could move ALL my books to the office, and it would be super cozy. And I'd love to get a pull-out couch for guests.
It's time to summer/fall clean again, too, and throw all my clothes out that I haven't worn for a year or more. I have a ton of skirts and dresses that really need to go. I'll keep maybe two of the dresses, but I have to face up to the fact that I haven't worn a dress or skirt for more than three years and am unlikely to in the near or distant future.
I'll take photos when I get it worked out. Actually, the jack not working in the living room may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell! |
